III. MEDICINAL OPIUMI, MORHINE,

COCAINE, ETC.

(a) Please furnish a summary of the laws or regulations, in

force with referenco to Articles 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14

respectively of the International Opium Convention

mentioning the titles and the dates on which they came into

foroo.

(b)

Please annex ten copies of the respective texts of these

laws or regulations

Please give a general account of the administration and work-

ing of these laws, or regulations, and their effectiveness in

achieving their object, and a statement of the conditions under

which licence or permit for the 1) Import, 2) oxport, 3) manufacture,

4) salo and distribution of each of the aforesaid drugs are or have

been granted.

Please give the following statisticul information regarding

morphine, 00081 ne heroine and the respective salts and medicinal opium as defined in Chapter III of the Convention.

Definitions.

By "medicinal opium" is understood:

Raw opium which has be on heated to 60° centigrade and contains not less than 10 per cent of morphine, whether or not it be warEÅ powdered or granulated or mixed with indifferent materials.

By "morphine" is understood.

The principal alkaloid of opium, having the chemical formula

017 H19 NO3.

By "oo caine " is understood:

The principal alkaloid of the leaves of Erythroxylon Cocu, having the formula 017 H21 NO4·

By "heroine" is understood:

Diacetyl-morphine, having the formula 0g1 Ha3 NO5-
